Planning a Loved One’s Funeral

Saint Elizabeth parish is eager to assist the family during the difficult time of losing a loved one. The parish schedules funerals on weekdays at 9:30 am. A second funeral may be scheduled later in the morning should a funeral already be scheduled for that day at 9:30 am. Our Consolation Ministry is available to help with the planning, and is present at the funeral mass to guide the family during the liturgy.

Our parish community recognizes the right of every Catholic to have a funeral mass. We do our best, as well, to send a Deacon from the parish to pray with the family and guests at the funeral home, usually on the afternoon or evening before the funeral mass.

Planning Guide and Selection Booklet

Many families wish to plan the funeral liturgy for their loved one. The Funeral Home Director will contact Saint Elizabeth with the funeral details. A Consolation Ministry representative from the parish will then contact the family to prepare the Funeral Mass.

During the funeral mass the family can choose the First and Second Readings that are proclaimed during the Liturgy of the Word, family or friends to present the gifts, as well as the hymns which will be sung. Should a family member or friend who is Catholic feel comfortable in doing one of the readings, they are encouraged to do so. Also included in this booklet are suggested hymns to be sung during the mass.

Jeanne Victor, Director of Liturgy, is available to assist families with funeral planning. If you need assistance at anytime, please contact (631) 271-4455 ext. 318 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
