VIRTUS Requirements For Parish Volunteers

The Diocese of Rockville Centre and St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish take child safety seriously and requires all clergy, employees and volunteers (ages 18 +) to participate in the Safe Environment Guidelines outlined in the Diocesan Child Protection Policy.  Annually, a review of this policy is shared with our Catechists and volunteers. According to Diocesan regulations, we will present a yearly safety policy presentation regarding the Protection of our children to all students. 

New Volunteer? Instructions to Complete the Safe Environment Requirements: ​

All parish volunteers are required to be a registered member of the parish, and must complete a VIRTUS training course, acknowledge receipt of our Volunteer Code of Conduct, and complete an online Background Check Screening.  Volunteers can begin once the completed volunteer application is received,  and all other requirements are verified by the Parish Center Business Office. 

1. Log into the Virtus website: www.Virtus.org. Begin the registration process by creating a Virtus account. (Select Rockville Centre Diocese from the drop-down list).
2. Follow the directions on each page.
3. During registration, you will receive a copy of the Code of Conduct to acknowledge electronically.
4. Select the class you wish to attend.
5. Complete the background screening application provided by Sterling Volunteers.

Parish Volunteer Application

After completing the registration process, you will have a Virtus account and an account with Sterling Volunteers. ​ Your Virtus account will contain the dates you signed the Codes of Conduct, submitted the background screening application, and will attend Virtus. ​ Keep your username and password for both accounts. ​For questions or assistance, contact the Office for the Protection of Children/Young People at This email address is being protected from spambots. Current Volunteer? Instructions to Update Background Check

Note: If you already have a Virtus account (www.Virtus.org), have attended the Class and have signed the Code of Conduct, all you need to do is initiate the updated background screening through Sterling Volunteers.
